Hard candy manufacturers

When sourcing hard candy, you must prioritize food safety certifications such as HACCP, ISO 22000, or BRCGS. Key technical specs include moisture content (typically <2%) to prevent stickiness and ensure shelf stability, and sugar-to-glucose ratios which affect clarity and texture. Ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch to verify the absence of heavy metals and microbial contaminants.

Compliance varies significantly by market. For the US market, products must adhere to FDA regulations, including the FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act) and specific Nutrition Facts labeling. For the EU, you must ensure all food colorings (E-numbers) are approved and that the product is free from prohibited GMOs. Always request ingredient transparency to identify potential allergens like soy or nuts, which require bolded declarations on packaging.

Hard candy is highly hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the air. To ensure a shelf life of 12–24 months, specify high-barrier packaging materials like PET/AL/PE laminates or individual twist-wraps with moisture-proof coatings. During transit, maintaining a cool, dry environment (RH <50%, Temp <25°C) is critical to prevent 'graining' (recrystallization) or melting, which can ruin the product's aesthetics and mouthfeel.

Professional suppliers on Made-in-China.com should offer custom mold creation for unique shapes/logos and bespoke flavor profiling (e.g., exotic fruits or functional additives like vitamins). Evaluate their ability to provide private label packaging—from retail-ready pouches to bulk displays—and confirm their Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) for custom formulations, which typically ranges from 500kg to 2 tons depending on the production line.

The biggest risks are ingredient non-compliance and damage during shipping. Mitigate these by using third-party inspection services (like SGS or Intertek) to conduct pre-shipment sampling. Ensure your contract includes a quality guarantee clause that covers 'sugar bloom' or melting issues caused by improper factory packaging. Always use Trade Assurance services to secure your payment until the goods pass customs and quality checks.

Focus on volume-based pricing tiers; for candy, raw material costs (sugar/corn syrup) fluctuate, so consider long-term fixed-price contracts if the market is volatile. Negotiate FOB (Free On Board) terms to maintain control over your shipping costs and choose a freight forwarder experienced in food-grade logistics. Ask for a 5-10% discount on repeat orders or reduced plate-making fees for customized packaging after the first run.

For long-haul sea freight, especially through tropical zones, it is highly recommended to use Reefer Containers (Refrigerated) set to a constant temperature to prevent deformation. Ensure the pallets are plastic or heat-treated wood (ISPM 15 compliant) to avoid pest contamination. Documentation is vital: ensure the supplier provides a Health Certificate, Phytosanitary Certificate, and Packing List that matches the customs requirements of your specific country.
