Vicryl suture manufacturers

Vicryl is a synthetic, absorbable, braided suture composed of a copolymer of 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide. When sourcing, you must specify the USP size (e.g., 2-0 to 8-0), the needle type (e.g., taper point, reverse cutting), and the needle length. Ensure the coating is Polyglactin 370 and calcium stearate to facilitate smooth passage through tissue and easy knot tie-down.

As a Class III medical device, sutures must meet rigorous standards. Ensure the supplier holds ISO 13485 certification for medical device quality management. Products must have CE Marking (MDR 2017/745) for the European market or FDA 510(k) clearance for the U.S. market. Additionally, verify that the sterilization method (usually Ethylene Oxide - EO) is clearly documented on the packaging.

Standard Vicryl typically retains 75% tensile strength at 2 weeks and 50% at 3 weeks, with complete absorption occurring between 56 to 70 days. For scenarios requiring faster healing, such as skin or mucosal closures, you should inquire about Vicryl Rapide, which loses strength much faster (approx. 10-14 days). Always match the absorption rate to the specific clinical application of your end-users.

Sutures are highly sensitive to moisture and heat. They must be housed in double-layer sterile packaging (typically a primary foil pouch and a secondary peel-open pouch). The outer cartons should be heavy-duty corrugated fiberboard to prevent crushing. Ensure each unit is labeled with a Lot Number, Expiration Date, and UDI (Unique Device Identification) for traceability.

Always request a Certificate of Analysis (CoA) and a Sterilization Validation Report for every batch. For large orders, hire a third-party inspection agency (like SGS or Intertek) to perform a pre-shipment inspection focusing on packaging vacuum integrity and labeling accuracy. On Made-in-China.com, prioritize Audited Suppliers who have undergone comprehensive on-site verification.

Focus negotiations on long-term stability and lead times rather than just the lowest price. Ask for tiered pricing based on annual volume rather than single orders. Request free samples for clinical evaluation by surgeons before committing to a bulk contract. Ensure the contract includes a quality guarantee clause stating that any batch failing sterility or tensile strength tests will be replaced at the supplier's expense.

Absorbable sutures are sensitive to extreme temperatures. Use temperature-controlled shipping (Cold Chain) if the transit route involves tropical climates, as excessive heat can degrade the polymer and reduce tensile strength. Avoid sea freight for small, high-value medical batches; air freight is preferred to minimize the time the product spends in uncontrolled port environments.

Utilize Trade Assurance services provided by platforms like Made-in-China.com to protect your payment until the goods are confirmed to meet your specifications. Ensure your Import License for medical devices is active in your destination country, and provide the supplier with the exact HS Code (typically 3006.10) to avoid customs delays or misclassification fines.
