Used crane manufacturers

Buyers must prioritize the Load Moment Indicator (LMI) and the structural integrity of the boom. Ensure the lifting capacity matches your specific project requirements and verify the engine hours versus the year of manufacture to assess actual wear. Key components like hydraulic pumps, swing bearings, and wire ropes should be inspected for signs of fatigue or leakage. For mobile cranes, check the chassis condition and tire/track wear.

The equipment must adhere to ISO 4301 for crane classification and safety. Depending on the destination, you may need CE marking (Europe), ANSI/ASME B30.5 (USA), or GOST (Russia). It is critical to obtain a valid inspection certificate from a third-party agency like SGS, BV, or TUV to ensure the machine meets safety operational standards before it leaves the port.

Request the original maintenance logs and service records from the previous owner. A well-maintained crane should have documented periodic inspections and oil analysis reports. Pay close attention to major repairs or structural welding, as these can impact the crane's safety rating. If possible, request a video of the crane performing a load test to verify functional stability under pressure.

Truck Cranes are ideal for urban projects requiring high mobility, while Crawler Cranes are better for soft terrain and heavy-duty lifting due to their stability. Rough Terrain Cranes are best for off-road construction sites. Ensure the boom length and jib configuration are compatible with your specific site constraints, such as height limits or reach requirements.

The biggest risks include hidden mechanical defects and non-compliance with local emission standards (e.g., EPA or Euro stages). To mitigate these, always hire a professional third-party inspector to conduct an on-site audit. Use Secure Payment services or Letters of Credit (L/C) to ensure funds are only released upon verification of shipping documents and inspection reports.

Focus negotiations on the refurbishment scope and spare parts package. Ask the supplier to include critical wear-and-tear parts (filters, seals, sensors) in the final price. Clarify the Incoterms—CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) is often preferred for heavy machinery to ensure the seller handles the complex loading process, but FOB gives you more control over the shipping line choice.

Used cranes are typically shipped via Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off) vessels or Flat Rack containers. For extremely large units, Break Bulk shipping may be required. Ensure the supplier provides a detailed packing list and rust-prevention treatment (such as wax coating) for sea transit. Verify that the supplier has experience in dismantling and reinforcing the boom for safe transport to prevent damage during heavy seas.

Verify the supplier's Business License and Export Qualification on the platform. Prioritize Audited Suppliers who have undergone on-site verification. Never transfer full payment upfront; a standard structure is a 30% deposit and 70% balance against the Bill of Lading (B/L) after the third-party inspection is passed. Ensure all serial numbers on the contract match the physical machine to prevent 'switch' scams.
