Sweater garment manufacturers

Buyers should prioritize the yarn composition, as it dictates comfort and durability. Common options include 100% Cashmere for luxury markets, Merino Wool for thermal regulation, and Cotton-Acrylic blends for cost-effective, easy-care retail. Always verify the yarn count (Nm) and gauge (GG)—for instance, 12GG is standard for fine-knit sweaters, while 3GG to 5GG is used for chunky, heavy-knit styles. Ensure the supplier provides a composition analysis report to prevent material fraud.

Focus on the linking and sewing quality. High-end sweaters use fully-fashioned knitting, where pieces are knitted to shape rather than cut-and-sew, reducing waste and improving fit. Check for tension consistency across the garment and ensure ribbing at cuffs and hems has high elasticity recovery (usually achieved by adding Spandex/Elastane). Inspect the seam strength and look for the absence of 'spirality' (twisting of the garment body after washing).

For the US market, compliance with the Flammable Fabrics Act (16 CFR Part 1610) is essential. For the EU, products must adhere to REACH regulations regarding chemical dyes and Azo-free requirements. If you are targeting eco-conscious consumers, look for suppliers with OEKO-TEX Standard 100, Global Recycled Standard (GRS), or Responsible Wool Standard (RWS) certifications to ensure ethical and non-toxic production.

Request pilling resistance test results (typically graded 1-5; a grade of 3-4 is recommended for commercial retail). The pilling tendency is often linked to fiber length; long-staple fibers pill less than short ones. Additionally, confirm the colorfastness to washing and light (ISO 105-C06) to ensure the garment maintains its aesthetic appeal after multiple home laundry cycles.

The primary risk is size inconsistency due to different regional charts (Asian vs. Western sizing). Always provide a detailed tech pack with a +/- 1cm tolerance margin. Another risk is moisture damage during sea freight, which can lead to mold. Ensure the supplier uses silica gel desiccant packets and sealed polybags for each unit, and consider third-party pre-shipment inspections to verify quantity and quality before final payment.

Sweater production is highly dependent on machine setup times. For custom designs, MOQs typically range from 300 to 500 pieces per color. To lower costs, ask for stock yarn colors already available at the factory to avoid custom dyeing surcharges. For bulk orders exceeding 2,000 units, aim for a 10-15% price reduction by leveraging economies of scale in yarn procurement.

Use Trade Assurance services provided by reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com to protect your payment until delivery is confirmed. For shipping, FOB (Free On Board) is generally preferred for large volumes as it gives the buyer control over freight costs and routing. For seasonal fashion, consider Sea-Air combined transport to balance cost and speed during peak winter shopping seasons.
