Sulfonic acid manufacturers

Buyers must prioritize the Active Matter content, which should typically be 96% or higher for high-quality LABSA. Additionally, monitor the Free Oil content (max 2.0%) and Free Sulfuric Acid (max 1.5%) to ensure product stability. The color (Klett) is also critical; a lower Klett value (usually below 50) indicates a higher purity level, which prevents discoloration in the final liquid detergent or soap products.

As a hazardous chemical, Sulfonic Acid must be accompanied by a comprehensive Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) compliant with the GHS (Globally Harmonized System). For European markets, REACH registration is essential. Furthermore, ensure the manufacturer holds ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) certifications to guarantee consistent chemical properties and sustainable production practices.

High-concentration LABSA (96%) is highly acidic and corrosive. It requires storage in acid-resistant containers, such as plastic drums (HDPE) or stainless steel tanks with specialized linings. In application, it must be neutralized with caustic soda (NaOH) to form sodium alkylbenzene sulfonate, the active surfactant. Buyers should ensure their facility is equipped with pH-monitoring tools to manage the neutralization process effectively.

The price of LABSA is heavily tied to the cost of raw materials like Benzene and Sulfur. To optimize costs, buyers should monitor crude oil market trends. Purchasing in Full Container Loads (FCL) using 210kg drums or 1000kg IBC tanks typically offers the best price-to-logistics ratio. On Made-in-China.com, look for suppliers offering tiered pricing where orders exceeding 20 tons can yield discounts of 5-10%.

Sulfonic Acid is classified under UN Number 2586 (Alkylsulfonic acids, liquid), Class 8 Corrosive substances. It must be packed in UN-approved packaging (e.g., UN-rated plastic drums) to pass customs. When shipping to countries with strict environmental laws, ensure the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code is strictly followed to avoid heavy fines or cargo rejection at the port.

Utilize Secure Payment services provided by platforms like Made-in-China.com to ensure funds are only released upon proof of shipment. It is highly recommended to appoint a third-party inspection agency (like SGS or Intertek) to perform a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI). This inspection should verify the active matter percentage and drum integrity before the container is sealed.

Given the volatility of chemical production, negotiate a rolling forecast agreement to secure production slots. Ask for a guaranteed lead time (typically 15-21 days) and include a penalty clause for delays exceeding 7 days. For long-term partnerships, request a Fixed Price Agreement for a set duration (e.g., 3 months) to hedge against sudden raw material price spikes.

The most common pitfall is incorrect HS Code classification (typically 3402.31 or 2904.10), which can lead to incorrect duty payments or seizures. Ensure all labels are in the language of the destination country and include required hazard pictograms. Always verify if your specific country has anti-dumping duties on Sulfonic Acid originating from certain regions to avoid unexpected costs at the border.
