Softshell jacket manufacturers

When evaluating softshell jackets, focus on the fabric construction, typically a three-layer system consisting of a polyester/spandex outer shell, a breathable TPU membrane, and a fleece lining. Key performance metrics include waterproof ratings (8,000mm to 10,000mm) and breathability (3,000g/m²/24h to 5,000g/m²/24h). Ensure the use of YKK zippers for durability and DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coatings that are PFOA/PFOS free to meet modern environmental standards.

For the European market, ensure products are REACH compliant regarding chemical substances and carry the CE mark if marketed as PPE. For the US market, compliance with ASTM standards for water resistance and CPSIA (if for children) is mandatory. Additionally, sourcing from factories with OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 or bluesign® certification guarantees that the textiles are safe and sustainably produced, which is a significant selling point for B2B buyers.

The integrity of a softshell jacket depends on the lamination/bonding quality between the layers. Request peel strength test reports to ensure the layers won't delaminate after multiple washes. Inspect the seam construction; while softshells are often water-resistant rather than waterproof, high-end versions should feature taped seams or ultrasonic welding to prevent water ingress at critical points.

Most professional suppliers on Made-in-China.com offer OEM/ODM services. You should specify requirements for silicone heat-transfer logos, custom zipper pullers, and branded neck tapes. For functional customization, consider requesting underarm ventilation zippers, adjustable hoods, and reinforced elbow patches to differentiate your product in the competitive outdoor gear market.

Always request a pre-production sample (PPS) before authorizing bulk manufacturing. Utilize third-party inspection services (such as SGS or Intertek) to conduct a During Production Check (DUPRO) and a Final Random Inspection (FRI). Focus specifically on color shading consistency across different batches and size chart accuracy, as textile dimensions can vary significantly between Asian and Western sizing standards.

Negotiate based on fabric weight (GSM) and order volume. For softshell jackets, a typical MOQ is 500-1,000 pieces per color. If you are a startup, look for suppliers on Made-in-China.com that offer 'Ready-to-Ship' items with lower MOQs (e.g., 50-100 units) but limited customization. For large orders, aim for a 30% deposit and 70% balance payment against the Bill of Lading (B/L) to maintain cash flow leverage.

For large volumes, Sea Freight (FCL or LCL) is the most economical choice, especially when using FOB (Free On Board) terms to maintain control over logistics costs. If you need to hit a seasonal launch, consider Sea-Air combined transport. Ensure the supplier uses vacuum packaging or high-compression folding to reduce the volumetric weight, which can significantly lower your total landed cost.

Conduct all transactions through secured payment channels and prioritize Audited Suppliers on Made-in-China.com. These suppliers have undergone rigorous on-site verification by independent agencies. Always verify the supplier's business license and check their export history to ensure they have experience shipping to your specific target country, which helps in navigating local customs and import duties.
