Granite tombstone manufacturers

Buyers should prioritize high-density, low-porosity granite to ensure long-term weather resistance. Common choices include Shanxi Black (Grade A) for its deep color and fine grain, or Blue Pearl for its unique aesthetic. Ensure the stone is free from hairline cracks, white spots, or gall patches, as these structural defects can lead to fracturing during freeze-thaw cycles. The water absorption rate should be less than 0.2% to prevent staining and moss growth.

The surface finish should achieve a glossiness level of 90-100 degrees through mechanical polishing. For carved elements, specify sandblasting, hand-carving, or laser etching depending on the detail required. Ensure dimensional tolerances are within +/- 1mm to guarantee a perfect fit during assembly. It is critical to verify that the supplier uses non-fading pigments for any gold-leafing or painted inscriptions to withstand UV exposure.

Tombstone designs must strictly adhere to the cemetery regulations of the destination country. For example, the UK market often requires NAMM (National Association of Memorial Masons) compliant fixings, while the US market may favor specific upright or lawn-level markers. Ensure the supplier can provide CAD drawings for approval before production to verify that the shape, size, and symbolic motifs align with local religious or cultural traditions.

Calculate the Total Landed Cost, including the heavy-weight shipping surcharges. Sourcing directly from hubs like Huian or Xiamen via Made-in-China.com can reduce unit costs by 20-40% compared to local wholesalers. Look for suppliers offering mixed-container loading, allowing you to combine different styles (uprights, kerb sets, and markers) to meet Minimum Order Quantities (MOQ) while diversifying your inventory.

The biggest risk is breakage during transit due to improper crating. Insist on fumigated solid wood crates with a thickness of at least 20mm, reinforced with iron straps. Each piece must be separated by foam or plastic sheets to prevent scratches. Furthermore, ensure the supplier provides Marine Insurance (All Risks) to cover potential damage during sea freight handling.

Request a pre-shipment inspection (PSI), either through a third-party agency or via detailed high-definition photos and videos of the finished product under natural light. Establish a clear compensation clause in the contract for stones that arrive cracked or with incorrect inscriptions. Using Secured Trading services on platforms like Made-in-China.com can help protect your payment until the shipping documents are verified.

Due to the extreme weight, granite is exclusively shipped via Sea Freight (FCL or LCL). For the US and European markets, be aware of Anti-Dumping Duties that may apply to certain stone products; always verify the HS Code (typically 6802) with a customs broker. To optimize costs, choose suppliers located near Xiamen Port, which offers the most frequent sailings and competitive freight rates for stone exports.
