Glass straw manufacturers

The most critical factor is the use of High Borosilicate Glass (3.3 expansion). Unlike ordinary soda-lime glass, borosilicate is highly resistant to thermal shock, meaning it won't crack when moving from ice-cold drinks to boiling water. Ensure the glass is lead-free, BPA-free, and non-toxic to meet food-grade safety standards.

For the US market, products must comply with FDA 21 CFR 177.2420 (Food Contact Substances). For the EU, they must meet LFGB (Lebensmittel- und Futtermittelgesetzbuch) and Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004. Additionally, ensure the manufacturer provides a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) to avoid customs seizures.

Focus on the annealing process and edge finishing. The ends of the straws must be fire-polished or rounded to ensure there are no sharp edges that could cause oral injury. Request a drop test report and verify the wall thickness; a standard thickness of 1.5mm to 2mm is recommended for a balance between durability and aesthetic appeal.

Suppliers on Made-in-China.com usually offer decal printing, laser engraving, and colored glass (using solid-colored glass rods rather than painted glass to prevent peeling). You can also request custom lengths (standard is 20cm/8 inches) and different shapes, such as straight or bent (curved) designs, to suit specific glassware.

The main risk is breakage during transit. To mitigate this, insist on 5-layer corrugated export cartons and individual packaging (such as bubble sleeves or kraft paper tubes). Ensure the supplier uses palletized shipping for bulk orders to minimize manual handling shocks.

Request a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) and define a Defect Acceptance Rate (AQL 1.5 or 2.5) in your contract. Specifically mention that any straws with bubbles, scratches, or uneven thickness exceeding 5% of the batch will trigger a refund or replacement clause.

Always use Secured Trading Services provided by Made-in-China.com to protect your payment. Avoid direct wire transfers to private accounts. Verify if the supplier is an Audited Supplier with a verified onsite manufacturing capacity to ensure you are dealing with a factory rather than a middleman.

Many countries have implemented Single-Use Plastic (SUP) bans, which has increased demand and may lead to anti-dumping duties in specific regions. Check your local customs tariff code (HS Code 7013) to confirm the latest import duties and environmental taxes applicable to glass drinkware.
