Fresh nuts manufacturers

Quality evaluation must focus on moisture content, peroxide value, and sensory attributes. For most nuts (like walnuts or almonds), the moisture content should be below 5% to prevent mold growth. Buyers should request a Peroxide Value (PV) test report; a low PV indicates the oils have not oxidized, ensuring the nuts are not rancid. Additionally, verify the uniformity of size (caliber) and the percentage of broken kernels, which should typically be less than 5% for premium grades.

Compliance with international food safety standards is non-negotiable. Ensure the supplier holds HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and ISO 22000 certifications. For specific markets, look for BRC (British Retail Consortium) or IFS (International Featured Standard). Furthermore, nuts are high-risk for Aflatoxin contamination, so you must demand a third-party lab analysis (such as SGS or Intertek) confirming that Aflatoxin levels meet the regulatory limits of your target country (e.g., EU or FDA standards).

Inquire about the supplier's drying and roasting technologies. Advanced low-temperature dehydration preserves the nutritional profile and natural oils better than high-heat methods. For raw nuts, Pasteurization (such as PPO or Steam treatment) is critical to eliminate pathogens like Salmonella. Additionally, check if the supplier uses Nitrogen-flushed packaging or vacuum sealing, which significantly extends shelf life by preventing oxidation during transit and storage.

Many professional suppliers on Made-in-China.com offer OEM/ODM services. This includes custom roasting profiles (light, medium, or dark), flavor application (honey, salt, or spice coatings), and varied dicing sizes for bakery use. For retail-ready products, confirm the supplier's capability for private label packaging, including stand-up pouches with resealable zippers and MAP (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) to maintain crispness.

The biggest risks are quality degradation during transit and customs rejection due to phytosanitary issues. To mitigate these, always use refrigerated containers (Reefer) for long-haul sea freight to maintain a stable temperature of 0°C to 5°C. Ensure the supplier provides a valid Phytosanitary Certificate issued by the exporting country's national plant protection organization. Using Trade Assurance services on Made-in-China.com can also protect your payment until the goods pass quality inspection.

Nut prices are often tied to commodity market fluctuations. It is wise to negotiate long-term contract pricing or a formula-based pricing model to avoid sudden spikes. Request tiered pricing based on volume, where a 15-20% discount is typical for full container loads (FCL). For payment, aim for LC (Letter of Credit) or DP (Documents Against Payment) for initial large orders to ensure transaction security.

Nuts are sensitive to humidity and odors. They must be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated environment away from strong-smelling goods (like spices or chemicals) to prevent flavor absorption. During shipping, use desiccant bags inside the container to control moisture. For high-value nuts like Macadamias or Pine nuts, vacuum-packed bulk bags (25kg/50lb) inside corrugated cartons are the industry standard for maximum protection.
