Chitosan price manufacturers

When sourcing Chitosan, the price is heavily influenced by three main technical parameters: Deacetylation Degree (DAC), Viscosity, and Purity. For industrial grades, a DAC of 85% is standard, while medical or food-grade applications often require >95%. Higher viscosity typically commands a premium price due to its superior film-forming properties. You must also verify the particle size (mesh) and moisture content (<10%) to ensure the product meets your specific processing requirements.

The intended use dictates the necessary certifications and price points. Agriculture-grade Chitosan focuses on solubility for bio-pesticides and fertilizers, prioritizing cost-efficiency. Food-grade Chitosan must comply with ISO 22000 or HACCP standards for use as a preservative or thickener. For Cosmetic or Pharmaceutical grades, buyers must ensure the product is free from heavy metals (Lead, Arsenic <0.5ppm) and meets USP or EP standards, which significantly increases the unit price.

To ensure international market entry, verify that the supplier holds ISO 9001 for quality management. If exporting to the US, check for FDA registration or GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status. For the EU market, REACH compliance is essential. Additionally, for specialized markets, Halal and Kosher certifications are often required to validate the source of the raw material (usually shrimp or crab shells).

Cost-efficiency is best achieved through volume-based negotiation and raw material seasonality awareness. Prices often fluctuate based on the availability of crustacean shells. Purchasing during peak fishing seasons can result in 10-15% savings. Furthermore, opting for standardized specifications rather than custom molecular weights can reduce lead times and production costs. Always request a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch to avoid the hidden costs of substandard materials.

The primary risk is specification mismatch, where the delivered DAC or viscosity does not match the sample. To mitigate this, use Third-Party Inspection services (like SGS or Intertek) to test the cargo before balance payment. Ensure the transaction is protected by Trade Terms on Made-in-China.com to secure your funds until the shipping documents are verified.

Focus on long-term partnership potential rather than just the lowest price. Ask for tiered pricing (e.g., 500kg, 1 ton, 5 tons) to understand the supplier's margin. Requesting a pre-shipment sample from the actual production lot is a critical negotiation point to ensure consistency. Professional buyers also negotiate Incoterms like CIF or DAP to simplify logistics and insurance responsibilities.

Chitosan is sensitive to moisture and odors. It should be packed in double-layer PE bags inside fiber drums or high-strength corrugated cartons. For sea freight, ensure the container is dry and well-ventilated. Clearly label the cargo with HS Code 391390 to avoid customs delays. For urgent small batches, air express is recommended to minimize exposure to fluctuating humidity levels.
