Black screw manufacturers

When sourcing black screws, you must prioritize material grade (such as Carbon Steel 4.8, 8.8, 12.9 or Stainless Steel 304/316) and the surface treatment process. The 'black' finish is typically achieved through Black Oxide, Zinc Black Plating, or Electrophoretic Coating (ED Coating). For high-precision applications, verify the thread tolerance (e.g., 6g/6h) and tensile strength to ensure they meet the mechanical requirements of your specific assembly.

The choice of finish dictates the screw's lifespan in various environments. Black Oxide provides a sleek look but offers minimal corrosion resistance, making it suitable only for indoor, oiled environments. Black Zinc Plating offers moderate protection, while Black Dacromet or Zinc-Nickel plating provides superior salt spray resistance (often exceeding 500-1000 hours). Ensure all coatings are RoHS and REACH compliant to avoid heavy metal contamination, especially for electronics or export to the EU.

Buyers should request a Material Test Report (MTR) and a Salt Spray Test Report to validate durability. Key inspections include dimensional accuracy using calipers or go/no-go gauges, hardness testing (Rockwell or Vickers), and torque testing to prevent head snapping during installation. For black screws, check for coating uniformity and ensure there is no 'oil bleeding' or 'white rust' present on the surface.

For automated driving systems, consistency in head geometry and recess depth (e.g., Phillips, Torx, or Hex) is critical. Specify a low PPM (parts per million) defect rate and request optical sorting to remove deformed screws or scrap metal that could jam automated feeders. High-quality suppliers on Made-in-China.com often provide these sorting services for enterprise-level clients.

The primary risk is hydrogen embrittlement, especially in high-strength screws (Grade 10.9 and above) that have been acid-pickled or electroplated. Ensure the supplier performs a baking process post-plating to release hydrogen. Additionally, be wary of material substitution where low-carbon steel is sold as high-tensile steel; always use third-party inspection services like SGS or Intertek for random batch testing.

Fastener production is highly volume-dependent. To get the best price, aim for Full Container Load (FCL) or at least palletized quantities to reduce the landed cost per unit. Negotiate based on raw material indices (steel prices); if steel prices drop, you have leverage for a discount. For custom black coatings, expect a higher MOQ compared to standard zinc-plated screws due to the specialized chemical baths required.

Screws are heavy and dense; ensure they are packed in heavy-duty double-corrugated cartons (typically 20-25kg per box) and secured on fumigated pallets. To prevent oxidation during sea freight, request VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) bags or moisture-proof plastic liners inside the boxes. Clearly mark the Country of Origin and HS Code (typically 731815) to facilitate smooth customs clearance.

Look for Audited Suppliers who have undergone on-site inspections by independent third parties. Check their Business Type (Manufacturer vs. Trading Company) and prioritize those with ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 certifications (the latter is essential for automotive-grade screws). Review their transaction history and response rate to ensure they can handle the scale of your procurement needs.
