Buyers must prioritize the Design Pressure and Volume Capacity. Ensure the tank's Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) exceeds your compressor's output by at least 10-20% to prevent safety valve triggers. Material choice is also vital; Carbon Steel is standard for industrial use, while Stainless Steel (304/316) is mandatory for food, beverage, or pharmaceutical applications to prevent internal corrosion and contamination.

As pressure vessels, air receivers must adhere to strict safety codes. For the US market, ASME Section VIII Division 1 (with U-stamp) is the gold standard. For the European Union, CE/PED (Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU) is required. In China, look for the SELLO (Special Equipment Licensing Office) certification. Purchasing a non-compliant tank can lead to legal liabilities and catastrophic site accidents.

Compressed air contains moisture which leads to oxidation. An Epoxy-lined internal coating is highly recommended to prevent rust and scale buildup, which can clog downstream tools and weaken the vessel walls. For high-humidity environments, ensure the tank includes an Automatic Drain Valve to regularly discharge condensate, significantly extending the service life of the unit.

The air receiver acts as a buffer to dampen pressure pulsations from reciprocating compressors and provides a reserve during peak demand. This prevents the compressor from short-cycling (frequent loading/unloading), which reduces energy consumption and minimizes wear and tear on the motor and screw elements.

The biggest risk is Customs Seizure or rejection at the port of entry due to missing Pressure Vessel Certificates. Always verify that the supplier can provide Original Mill Test Reports and Hydrostatic Test Certificates. Additionally, ensure the Nameplate is permanently etched in English with all required technical data as per the destination country's laws.

Request a Third-Party Inspection (TPI) such as SGS, BV, or TUV before the balance payment is made. Focus negotiations on the Welding Quality (X-ray or Ultrasonic testing) and the Warranty Period for the tank body (typically 5-10 years). Ensure the supplier uses Standard Export Packaging (steel cradles and bubble wrap) to prevent structural damage during sea freight.

Large tanks (over 1000L) often require Open Top Containers or Flat Rack Containers if they exceed standard dimensions. For smaller units, LCL (Less than Container Load) is possible, but you must ensure the tank is crated to avoid impact. Always clarify the Incoterms; FOB or CIF are common, but ensure the marine insurance covers denting and structural deformation during transit.

Look for Audited Suppliers who have undergone on-site verification. Check their Export Experience specifically to your region. A supplier with a history of shipping to the US or EU is more likely to understand the complex documentation and safety labeling required for pressure equipment.
